Times Square shuffle

Leaving New York City this morning was not easy. I love this place! But, I’m on an mission, not a vacation. So I packed up all my stuff and re acquainted myself with my bike after five days of rest. Picture this, riding down broadway (Trailer and all), zipping through a herd of bike hungry taxis during morning rush hour, passing by the lights of Times Square and trying to get to Penn Station by 8:15am to meet Scott and Evan.

It was exhilarating, scary, fun, dangerous and suicidal all at once! We got on a train (hopefully the last) and headed to Newark. This short jump allowed us to avoid some crazy roads on our way out of town. We began to ride in the picturesque city of Newark. This is the ugliest place I had ever seen actually. Old boarded up factories, dirty roads, junkyards on every corner and lots of cars. The entire place seems to be covered in a blanket of dirt, everything was a shade of grey. Not much color.

We made it out of ‘UglyTown’ after a little pedaling and the world got sunny and happy once again. However, I must say that New Jersey wins for the highest concentration of broken glass on the roads. It’s a constant challenge to dodge the mine fields of tire popping shards. Now we are in Princeton with my great friends Nate and Kaley. Nate is a high school buddy and I’ve known Kaley since Kindergarten. We are in good hands.
