What ever goes up…..
Happy Fathers Day!
Ok so I thought yesterday was tough, today was brutal! Well, at least half of it was. I started out with a 19 mile uphill. I knew I was in trouble when a girl all decked out in spandex passed by me and said, “Are you riding that thing up Palomar Mountain?” She laughed and smoked by me, I said, “Yes, it’s going all the way to DC!”
A couple miles into the ascent I was in pain and having some serious second thoughts about this whole cruiser thing. I mean, I could barely keep the bike going, the easiest of the three gears was not very easy. I had to jam on those pedals just to keep upright. The scenery was amazing though, desert mountains, clear blue sky and fresh air!
I finally made it to Ranchita, 4000ft above sea level and rewarded myself with a pint of double fudge brownie ice cream, ahhh. I’d never eaten ice cream so quickly.
Now comes the fun part! 13 miles of fast downhill into the Anza Borrego desert. The views were amazing but I had to be careful, my coaster brakes were having a hard time.
I rolled into Borrego Springs at 4pm, not a bad day. Now I’m camped out behind an auto body shop, stealing their power hookups so I can update all of you!
Tomorrow I’m off into the hot hot desert! At least it’s not the mountains.
